IMPORTANT NOTICE for first time SMU cable TV and Internet customers:

SMU's standard billing procedure for cable TV and/or Internet is to bill through the end of the month the bill was sent.  Depending on when you started your service, your first bill may be more than one month of charges.  Be assured, after the first bill, your bills should be for just one month, provided there were no other outstanding billing or payment issues.

Here is an example:

Jane Doe starts her cable TV service on September 25.  Her first bill that she receives in October will include the days she had service in September (six days) and through October 31 (31 days).

Jane's bill the following month will be for just November (30 days).

Shawano Municipal Utilities (SMU) has made two changes in billing:

  1. Timing.  Bills will now be sent at the same time as electric, water and sewer bills.   You will still receive separate bills, however they will be due at the same time.
  2. Time Period the Bills Cover.  Bills will now cover the time period through the end of the month the bill was sent.  In the past, SMU billed for the next month.  For existing cable TV and/or Internet customers, your October bill may be for a $0.00 amount because you paid through the end of October last month.  Your November bill and forward will be back to one month of charges.

What does it cost to get my house wired?
Answer
FREE!  When you sign up for services SMU will wire free one device for each service you take. See "Fiber Information" on the selection menu on the left for details on what is covered.

Why do I have to fill-out an application?

Answer
The application provides SMU with information for scheduling work and purchasing equipment. The application does not mean that you will be hooked up the next day. This is a new system that has to be built from our buildings across the city to your house, not just from the house to a pole. We appreciate your support and patience with the building of the new system.
